Evan Strong grew up in Hawaii. At age 17, when he was just about to launch his career as a professional skateboarder, tragedy struck, he was hit by a drunken driver while riding his motorcycle. He survived the accident, but his left leg had to be amputated!
It wasn’t long after the accident, before he got back on the skateboard, and also went on to learn other adaptive sports as well which included snowboarding.
Later on, he became active in the campaign to promote adaptive snowboarding as a Paralympic sport. When it became an official part of the Games, he won the first gold medal in 2014.
